Brett Yormark Receives Contract Extension as Big 12 Commissioner
IRVING, Texas — The Big 12 Conference has confirmed a three-year contract extension for Commissioner Brett Yormark, extending his tenure through 2030. This announcement follows the Big 12 board of directors’ unanimous decision to build upon Yormark’s initial five-year agreement, which was set to conclude in 2027.
Linda Livingstone, chair of the Big 12 board and president of Baylor University, remarked, “We are pleased to extend Commissioner Brett Yormark’s contract an additional three years. His leadership over the past three years has been vital in guiding the Big 12’s expansion and unifying our conference.” She highlighted Yormark’s strategic vision and innovative initiatives as essential for the Big 12’s current success and future prospects.
Yormark, previously the CEO of Roc Nation, stepped into the commissioner role in 2022, succeeding Bob Bowlsby. During his tenure, he has negotiated a significant television contract extension with ESPN and Fox worth $2.28 billion. His leadership facilitated the addition of new member schools, including Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah, to the Big 12, following the decline of the Pac-12. Moreover, he played a crucial role in the earlier addition of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF to the conference.
“I am grateful for the Board’s continued support,” Yormark stated. “We have made great progress over the last three years, and our best days are ahead. I look forward to collaborating with our member schools to innovate and prepare the Big 12 for a successful future.”
This extension reflects the confidence the Big 12 has in Yormark’s ability to navigate the evolving landscape of college athletics.
