More than twelve years after Aliza Sherman was fatally stabbed in Cleveland, authorities arrested Gregory Moore, her former divorce attorney, in connection with her death. A grand jury indicted Moore, 51, on multiple charges, including aggravated murder, conspiracy, and kidnapping. Sherman was killed on March 24, 2013, while waiting outside Moore’s office building; she was stabbed more than ten times. Security footage from the scene showed a hooded figure fleeing, initially falling under suspicion, but the case remained unresolved until recently.
In 2021, after Sherman’s case gained renewed attention from NBC’s “Dateline,” the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations took over the investigation. Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley emphasized that new evidence strongly implicates Moore in orchestrating the brutal murder. The indictment outlines that prior to the attack, Moore had texted Sherman to meet him, and he communicated with her before and after the stabbing to fabricate an alibi.
The indictment posits that Moore killed Sherman to thwart an upcoming divorce trial, which was set for the day after her murder. At the time, Moore was already under investigation for sending bomb threats to the courthouse to evade court appearances. He had pleaded guilty in 2017 to related charges of inducing panic and providing false statements, but the murder case was unsolved until now.
Moore has yet to be assigned legal representation and is expected to be arraigned at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center soon. The Sherman family has waited over a decade for justice amidst their continued grief.
