Arizona Pastor Murder Suspect Admits to Religious Killing Plot
PHOENIX – Adam Sheafe, the man accused of murdering 76-year-old Pastor William Schonemann in April, confessed to plotting a series of religiously motivated killings. In an interview with ABC15 from jail, Sheafe, 51, admitted to "crucifying" the pastor, revealing his intentions to target over a dozen religious leaders across multiple states. Sheafe stated, “I just drove there like two in the morning… and then I just went in there and did it.”
Claiming his actions were driven by a belief that Christianity was misleading, Sheafe discussed a previous targeted attack on Easter Sunday, just a week before Schonemann’s death. The pastor, affectionately known as Pastor Bill by his congregation at the New River Bible Chapel, was found dead in his home on April 28.
Sheafe was arrested in Sedona two days later for unrelated crimes, but authorities later linked him to the murder. He has a history of violent offenses and has expressed a desire for the death penalty, stating he would plead guilty immediately. The investigation into his actions underscores ongoing concerns about religiously motivated violence.
