Severe Heat Advisory for Southern Nevada, Arizona, and California

Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Father’s Day Weekend

The National Weather Service has announced an Extreme Heat Warning for Southern Nevada, Northwest Arizona, and Southeast California, set to take effect this Sunday, June 15, from 10 AM to 10 PM. Temperatures are expected to soar between 107 and 112 degrees Fahrenheit, presenting serious risks for those unprepared for such high heat levels.

This early June heatwave can lead to a surge in heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for individuals lacking access to adequate hydration and air conditioning.

To ensure safety during these extreme conditions, authorities recommend several precautions: drink plenty of water and sports drinks to stay hydrated; wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and regularly apply SPF 30 sunscreen; and seek refuge in air-conditioned spaces. Additionally, it is vital to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, typically between 10 AM and 6 PM, and to steer clear of alcohol and caffeine to prevent dehydration. Most importantly, never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Residents are urged to take these warnings seriously and prioritize their health and safety as temperatures rise.
