Marylanders Plan Protests Against Trump Policies Amid National "No Kings" Movement
Protests are set to take place across Maryland on Saturday, as part of the nationwide "No Kings" movement aimed at challenging President Trump’s policies. One of the largest demonstrations will be held in Patterson Park, Baltimore, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., organized by Ellie Rosenstock of Indivisible Baltimore. She emphasizes that the event is designed for everyday citizens to gather peacefully in solidarity against the Trump Administration.
Rosenstock noted that discontent is widespread, transcending party lines. “I don’t think anyone thought we’d have military in the streets or a lack of due process,” she stated, reflecting on the concerns of many Americans. The gathering is family-friendly, featuring local leaders including Baltimore City Council President Zeke Cohen and U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen.
In addition to the Baltimore event, a protest in Bel Air is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. on Churchville Road, opposing Congressman Andy Harris, the only Republican in Maryland’s Congressional delegation. DeLane Lewis, a spokesperson from Together We Will Harford County, emphasized that the protest would be a peaceful exercise of First Amendment rights, focusing on the values being undermined in the current political climate.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore shared his support for the citizens’ right to assemble, stating, “The ability to freely speak out and assemble is a cornerstone of American democracy.” He affirmed that state agencies are closely monitoring the situations to ensure safety.
The protests coincide with President Trump’s authorization of a military parade in Washington, D.C., to celebrate his birthday and the Army’s anniversary, an expenditure that some protesters criticize as misplaced priorities in light of pressing social needs.
