Heat Warnings Activated for 12 Counties in Arizona

Press Release: Arizona Faces Extreme Heat This Weekend

PHOENIX – Arizona residents are bracing for a sweltering weekend as an Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect until June 16 for 12 counties, including Maricopa, Pima, Yuma, and Coconino. Temperatures are projected to reach as high as 115 degrees, prompting alerts from the National Weather Service and public health officials.

Matt Salerno, lead meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Phoenix, indicated that some relief may come with the anticipated monsoon season later this month. “If moisture can build in soon, it could help to alleviate the extreme heat conditions,” he noted.

In light of the oppressive temperatures, officials are advising residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and avoid leaving children or pets in parked cars. Community members are encouraged to look after elderly neighbors and those without reliable shelter.

“Anytime temperatures exceed 90 or 100 degrees, the risk for heat stress significantly increases. This weekend’s temperatures elevate that risk to a major level,” Salerno warned.

The forecast for Phoenix includes sunny skies, with highs reaching between 108 and 113 degrees over the next few days. Residents are urged to take precautions.
