Experts Suggest Israel’s Strikes Showcase Its Military Dominance Over Iran

The Israeli government reported that a significant military operation involved dozens of fighter jets, targeting Iran’s primary uranium enrichment facility, ballistic missile sites, and high-ranking military officials. This operation also included sabotage missions by Israel’s Mossad against Iran’s air defense mechanisms. Iranian state media indicated that several senior military leaders and nuclear scientists, including the commander of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, were killed during the early Friday strikes.

Over the past year, Israel has shown an ability to conduct operations within Iran largely without repercussions, successfully assassinating key figures and damaging critical air defense systems. Notably, Israeli airstrikes in October and April targeted Iran’s S-300 air defense networks and infrastructure for the production of solid fuel for ballistic missiles. According to Michael Knights from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Iran’s air defenses have been severely compromised, and rebuilding these systems is a time-consuming challenge, particularly given the vast number of targets Israel could potentially attack. He emphasized that Iran’s defenses are inadequate against a technologically advanced adversary like Israel.

While Israel can significantly hinder Iran’s nuclear advancement with its airstrikes, military experts, including former U.S. and Israeli officials, acknowledge that Israel lacks the heavy bombers and munitions needed to effectively target Iran’s deeply buried nuclear installations. This limitation poses a challenge for Israel in its ongoing efforts to curtail Iran’s nuclear capabilities while navigating the complexities of regional security.
