Arizona Wildcats Gear Up for College World Series Showdown Against Coastal Carolina
OMAHA, Nebr. (KVOA) — The Arizona Wildcats kick off their highly-anticipated appearance in the College World Series (CWS) with a rematch against Coastal Carolina, who previously defeated them in the 2016 finals. This marks Arizona’s 19th CWS appearance and first under head coach Chip Hale, a former champion with the team in 1986. Hale expressed pride in bringing the Wildcats back to Omaha, emphasizing the significance of this year’s celebration, the 75th anniversary of the CWS.
Known for their rallying cry "Bear Down," the players have adopted "Wear Down" after a month of traveling through five different cities. The Wildcats finished their regular season strong, clinching a series win in Houston before capturing the Big 12 Tournament title in Arlington, then sweeping the Eugene Regional and capping off their journey by winning the Chapel Hill Super Regional.
As they prepare for their game against the Chanticleers on Friday at 11 a.m. Tucson time, the team feels at home at Charles Schwab Field, reminiscent of their Hi Corbett Field. Players are optimistic that their disciplined approach to hitting will shine through as they aim for victory. News 4 Tucson will provide continuous coverage throughout the series.
