PHOENIX, AZ — A tragic accident in Flagstaff has resulted in the death of 22-year-old Derek Blakely, following a collision with a police vehicle while he was riding a self-balancing electric skateboard.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:53 PM on June 3, as Blakely entered the roadway on S. Milton Road near Route 66. A Flagstaff police officer, operating a marked patrol car, was traveling northbound when the collision happened. Despite immediate aid provided by the officer at the scene, Blakely sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
