Draymond Reveals How Close Durant Was to Joining the Warriors

Headline: Draymond Green Reveals Near-Miss Trade for Kevin Durant Back to Warriors

In a surprising revelation on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Draymond Green disclosed that the Golden State Warriors nearly re-acquired Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns. The news came during a conversation about Luka Doncic’s recent trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Green recounted the moment during a Warriors charity poker tournament, saying he had just spoken with Warriors majority owner Joe Lacob, who was excited about the potential trade. “I think we’re getting Kevin Durant back. It’s happening,” Lacob told Green, who expressed enthusiasm about the prospect. Just minutes later, however, the mood shifted as Steph Curry informed Green of Doncic’s trade, leaving them both surprised.

Despite the initial excitement, Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro confirmed that the Warriors eventually turned their focus to acquiring Jimmy Butler after Durant expressed a desire to remain in Phoenix. Reports from ESPN indicated that Durant communicated with Curry, sharing he was content in Phoenix and had no intention of being traded. "I never planned on leaving or moving or getting traded," Durant stated.

Expounding on his decision, Durant emphasized the risk of mid-season trades. "It’s like, I get why y’all want to trade me… It just doesn’t make sense for either side right now to go through it,” he said. Notably, Durant, who played for the Warriors from 2016 to 2019 and won two championships, expressed that such a major move could disrupt team dynamics and his career trajectory.

As the dust settled, it seems both parties opted to maintain their current paths, with Durant looking to shape his future on his own terms.
