Maryland Senators Urge Accountability from Trump Administration Amid Crypto Concerns

Maryland Senators Angela Alsobrooks and Chris Van Hollen are taking a firm stand against officials from the Trump administration, calling for accountability and highlighting potential risks to public health and safety. At a recent rally, Alsobrooks demanded the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr., citing troubling statements during his confirmation regarding vaccine safety and medical racism. She emphasized that Kennedy’s tenure undermines the legacy of his late uncle, President John F. Kennedy, who advocated for public health and vaccination.

"I am calling on Secretary Kennedy to resign," said Alsobrooks. "He must go. He ought to be fired." She criticized Kennedy’s support for significant HHS workforce reductions and massive funding cuts in the proposed federal budget.

Van Hollen echoed her concerns, warning that Kennedy’s leadership poses severe risks to American public health. "People will die" if his influence over HHS persists, he warned.

In addition to advocating for personnel changes, both senators are supporting anti-corruption legislation aimed at prohibiting top government officials from engaging in cryptocurrency transactions. This follows the emergence of a cryptocurrency associated with Trump, which has reportedly generated hundreds of millions within the first 100 days of his administration. Alsobrooks characterized this as a “pathway to bribery” and stressed the urgency of establishing a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.

As the Trump administration’s policies continue to unfold, Maryland legislators, including Senate President Bill Ferguson and Congressman Glenn Ivey, are expressing grave concerns about the potential negative impacts on the state’s economic and health systems. Ferguson noted that cuts to health care funding could create significant challenges, emphasizing the need for vigilance as they seek to protect Maryland’s future.
