Diamondbacks Suffer Heavy Loss to Reds
CINCINNATI — In a tough outing for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team faced a crushing 13-1 defeat against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday, marking a challenging day that included two losses. Rain once again threatened to delay the game, but the weather cleared up around the fourth inning.
Eugenio Suarez provided a rare highlight for the D-backs, hitting his 100th home run at Great American Ballpark. The milestone shot puts Suarez fourth on the all-time home run list at the venue, trailing behind Reds legends Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, and Brandon Phillips. He ended the game with a commendable 2-for-4 performance, bringing his career total to 293 home runs, just seven shy of the coveted 300 mark.
Unfortunately, it was a difficult day on the mound for starter Ryne Nelson, who had one of his worst performances this season. Nelson managed only three innings, allowing seven earned runs on four hits and four walks. Reliever Kendall Graveman did little to salvage the situation, giving up six earned runs, including a grand slam to former Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux.
In an unusual turn of events, backup catcher Jose Herrera took the mound in the eighth inning to finish the game. However, there was a silver lining as right-handed pitcher Christian Montes de Oca made his Major League debut, delivering 2.2 hitless innings with two strikeouts and only one walk.
The Diamondbacks, now 31-33, look to bounce back with an early matchup against the Reds on Sunday at 10:40 a.m. MST, led by starting pitcher Zach Gallen. Fans can catch the action on Arizona Sports 98.7 or through the Arizona Sports app.
