Square Launches AI Assistant to Empower Sellers
Square has unveiled a conversational artificial intelligence (AI) assistant designed to support sellers using its business technology platform. Named Square AI, this tool is now available in public beta for all U.S. sellers and is integrated within the Square Dashboard, according to a June 3 blog post from the company.
Willem Avé, Square’s global head of product, stated, “Our goal is to give each seller their own virtual employee that knows every bit of their business.” The AI assistant is capable of answering questions regarding platform functionality, offering step-by-step instructions drawn from its extensive knowledge base.
Moreover, Square AI utilizes sellers’ pertinent data to provide insights about their individual businesses. It can analyze sales patterns, customer behavior, staff productivity, and transactions, allowing sellers to optimize their operations. This feature aims to help businesses address various challenges, from identifying slow-moving inventory to maximizing top-selling items and recognizing loyal customers. Future enhancements to the AI’s capabilities are planned throughout the year.
Avé emphasized the importance of conversational data exploration, stating, “We want to enable sellers’ curiosity to understand different parts of their business.” Data protection remains a priority; hence, Square AI is accessible only to account owners and administrators, ensuring that sensitive information is never shared with model providers or retained outside of Square’s secure systems.
Additionally, Square’s AI offerings have previously included features like AI-generated product descriptions and backgrounds for websites. The parent company, Block, has also been developing an internal initiative termed “goose,” designed to serve as a comprehensive financial assistant for both consumers and sellers.
With Square AI, sellers can utilize advanced technology while maintaining the security of their essential business data.
