Short-Handed Mercury Overwhelmed by Lynx with Collier’s Return

Lynx Dominate Mercury for Second Victory in Five Days

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Lynx continued their impressive start to the season, defeating the Phoenix Mercury 88-65 on Tuesday night, marking their second win against Phoenix in five days. Napheesa Collier and Natisha Hiedeman both shone with 18 points each, while Collier also recorded 11 rebounds.

The Lynx’s victory adds to their remarkable start, now boasting an 8-0 record, matching the same number of undefeated starts achieved by all other WNBA teams combined throughout the league’s history.

After a shaky start, trailing 23-14 at the end of the first quarter, Minnesota charged ahead, outscoring the Mercury 49-23 to establish a formidable 63-46 lead by the third quarter’s conclusion. A 9-0 rally in the fourth quarter, featuring a three-point play by Collier and back-to-back three-pointers from teammates Bridget Carleton and Kayla McBride, solidified their control at 80-56.

Despite their offensive prowess, the Lynx turned over the ball 23 times but managed a season-high 29 assists on 34 made shots, showcasing their strong ball movement.

On the rival side, Lexi Held led the Mercury with 16 points while Satou Sabally contributed 15 points and eight rebounds. Sabally scored late in the fourth quarter, securing her first points of the second half while Kitija Laksa added ten points to the tally. The Mercury faced challenges without key players Alyssa Thomas, Kahleah Copper, and Natasha Mack, who were sidelined for the game.

The Lynx’s victory reinforces their status as early contenders this season, leaving fans eager for what lies ahead.
