Rockies’ Victory Against Marlins Breaks MLB Record for Consecutive Series Losses

The Colorado Rockies have finally ended their dismal record of 22 consecutive series losses with a 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins, marking their first series win since mid-September 2022. Hunter Goodman played a key role in the victory, hitting his third home run in just two games. This win also brings the Rockies’ record to 11-50, the worst in Major League Baseball.

Interim manager Warren Schaeffer expressed satisfaction with the team’s accomplishment, highlighting its significance even though it came so late in the season. The Rockies had only achieved consecutive wins once this year prior to this series, indicating a much-needed turnaround for the struggling team. Goodman reflected on the situation, noting that just being competitive in games is an improvement from their earlier struggles.

Goodman’s teammates recognized his impact, with center fielder Brenton Doyle praising him as a top hitter when he’s performing well. In a tense finish, reliever Seth Halvorsen earned his third save, with Doyle making a dramatic running catch to prevent a potential home run.

Statistically, the Rockies are only the fourth team in MLB history to go 18 series before securing their first win of the season, joining the ranks of teams like the 1987 Padres and the 1962 Senators. Prior to this series, the Rockies had an abysmal road record of 3-28— the worst in over a century.

With the first series win secured, Schaeffer and the team aim to build on this momentum as they seek a sweep against the Marlins in their next game.
