Arizona Man Sentenced to Life Plus 10 Years for Murder Upon Release
An Arizona man, Clifton Nez Hamalowa, 47, has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 10 years for the murder of Richard Olds, just 16 days after being released from prison in 2020. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Hamalowa shot Olds multiple times in front of his young child on land belonging to the Gila River Indian Community. Following the crime, he and his siblings attempted to conceal their actions by disposing of Olds’ vehicle and burying his body in a remote area.
Hamalowa was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and weapon charges, among other offenses. Notably, he has a history of violent crime, previously stabbing his mother in 1991 and another man in 1999, as well as attacking a fellow inmate during his earlier imprisonment. His siblings also faced consequences: Thomas Leon Hamalowa received an 8.5-year sentence for being an accessory to the murder, while Devonne Beth Hamalowa was sentenced to 7 years for similar charges. This case highlights ongoing issues related to violent crime in the region and the implications of repeat offenders.
