Arizona State Triumphs Over UC Irvine in LA Regional

LOS ANGELES – Arizona State University continued its strong campaign in the Los Angeles Regional with a 4-2 victory over UC Irvine, thanks to standout performances from Jacob Tobias and Isaiah Jackson. Tobias shined with a home run and two doubles, while Jackson contributed a home run and an RBI single, propelling the Sun Devils to advance to Saturday’s matchup against top-seed UCLA.

The game, held on Friday, saw Arizona State (36-22) take an early 2-0 lead with back-to-back homers in the second inning. However, UC Irvine (41-16) quickly responded, tying the game in the bottom of the frame with key hits from Alonso Reyes and Frankie Carney.

The decisive moment occurred in the fourth inning, when Tobias and Kien Vu hit consecutive doubles, restoring Arizona State’s lead. Jackson later added an insurance run in the eighth, solidifying their lead.

Arizona State’s starter Ben Jacobs allowed two runs in five innings, while reliever Jonah Giblin pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, earning the save with Cole Carlon.

As a historically successful program with five College World Series titles, Arizona State aims for yet another championship run, while UC Irvine seeks a D-I CWS appearance following two Division II titles.
