AHS Assists Dog with Burned Paws in Finding a Forever Home

Press Release: Phoenix Dog Found a New Home After Overcoming Burn Injury

PHOENIX – Yoru, a 1-year-old German Shepherd, has been adopted from the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) following recovery from burned paws. Rescued as a stray, Yoru was treated at AHS’ Lazin Animal Foundation Trauma Hospital, where staff noted he was also slightly underweight but otherwise healthy.

After receiving regular bandage changes and medication, Yoru has successfully found a new home in Phoenix, a testament to the recovery efforts of the AHS team. This case highlights the importance of pet care during the warmer months, as many animals suffer from heat-related distress. AHS responders receive numerous calls each year regarding pets left without water, woefully lacking shelter, or trapped in hot vehicles.

To help ensure pet safety in heat, AHS offers several precautions: checking pavement temperature with the back of the hand, limiting outdoor exercise to early morning or late evening, avoiding long walks, and providing ample fresh water. Additionally, considering dog booties for hot surfaces can protect pets’ paws.

AHS encourages pet owners to stay informed about summer safety measures. More tips and resources are available on their website.
