Rare Rainfall Expected in Phoenix This Weekend
PHOENIX — A unique late-spring storm system is poised to bring much-needed rainfall to the Valley, potentially breaking a dry spell of over seven weeks. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix anticipates highs in the low 100s on Friday and Saturday, followed by significantly cooler temperatures and a high likelihood of precipitation.
According to Alex Young from the NWS, the chance of rain in the Phoenix area is 70% to 80% from Sunday through Monday morning, with expected rainfall totals between 0.25 to 0.5 inches. Additionally, there is a 15% to 30% probability of scattered thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon and evening. “This is going to be a widespread rain event,” Young stated.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport hasn’t recorded measurable rainfall since April 18, marking a prolonged dry period. Looking ahead, the NWS has also released its 2025 Arizona monsoon outlook, predicting a 33% to 50% chance of above-normal monsoonal rainfall this season, following two consecutive years of below-average precipitation.
