George R.R. Martin Claims He Will ‘Never Complete’ Next Book in ‘Game of Thrones’ Series

George R. R. Martin, the creator of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, which inspired the “Game of Thrones” TV adaptation, announced on his blog that he may never finish the long-awaited sixth novel, “The Winds of Winter.” He expressed a sense of disillusionment with the series, stating, “I will never finish WINDS” and indicated that if he did, he would also likely not complete the seventh book, “A Dream of Spring.” Martin revealed he has “lost all interest” in the series, which debuted in 1996 with “A Game of Thrones,” despite still caring about its characters and storylines.

He highlighted other works he values, mentioning early short stories like “A Song for Lya” and “This Tower of Ashes,” as well as edited anthologies like “Dangerous Women.” At 77, Martin expressed a resignation about his writing aspirations, mentioning that he feels he is aging and losing motivation.

In recent news, Martin announced a collaboration with Lion Forge Entertainment to adapt Howard Waldrop’s 1989 novella “A Dozen Tough Jobs” into an animated feature. This shift in focus has frustrated some fans who prefer his work related to Westeros and “The Winds of Winter.” Martin acknowledged this discontent, while also noting the importance of the late Waldrop’s work, expressing hope that the adaptation would honor his late friend’s vision.

Overall, Martin’s candid reflections suggest a significant departure from the high expectations surrounding the conclusion of his epic fantasy series, leaving fans wondering about the fate of his literary creations.
