Chubby Skewers Launches in Mesa, Offering Authentic Northeast Chinese Street Food
Mesa, AZ — Chubby Skewers, a popular barbecue chain hailing from Northeast China, has opened its first Arizona location at the intersection of Guadalupe and Dobson roads. The restaurant brings a unique street food experience, featuring an array of skewered meats, seafood, and vegetables designed for late-night diners and food enthusiasts. Owner Noel Cheng emphasizes the commitment to quality, stating that all skewers are made fresh daily.
At $1.20 each, with a $1 price for Chubby Club members, customers can enjoy over 40 varieties, including premium wagyu beef sourced from Japan and Australia. Each table boasts a charcoal grilling box to sear meats quickly, enhancing flavor and preserving juices—a contrast to typical gas grills used in American Korean barbecue.
In addition to skewers, the menu features items like spicy clams and malatang, alongside a selection of drinks such as beer and sake. The restaurant’s nostalgic ambiance replicates a back-alley barbecue joint in China, enhancing the dining experience. As Chubby Skewers expands nationally, Mesa was chosen for its diverse culinary scene, aiming to attract a broad audience beyond the Asian District. Further expansions of the Chubby Group’s concepts are anticipated in the future.
