Kimberly Yee to Challenge Tom Horne in 2026 Election
PHOENIX – Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee announced her candidacy for Superintendent of Public Instruction, intending to challenge incumbent Tom Horne in the 2026 election. Yee, who first took office in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022, is term-limited and unable to seek another term as treasurer.
At a May 28 news conference, Yee emphasized her commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and school choice, vowing to collaborate with parents for the benefit of Arizona’s children. "Our state’s children and their families are too important to be left paying the price for petty political games and empty campaign rhetoric," she asserted.
Yee’s announcement comes amid growing discontent among state leaders, including fellow Republicans, over Horne’s support for the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program, which has ballooned to a $1 billion annual expense for the state. As the election approaches, Yee’s focus on education reform and fiscal responsibility will likely become central themes in the campaign, setting the stage for a contentious race.
With educational issues at the forefront of public debate, the upcoming election will be closely watched by voters and stakeholders alike.
