Local Baseball Star Signs With Mesa Community College
Carbondale native Cole Fenton has taken a significant step toward realizing his childhood dream of playing college baseball by signing a letter of intent to join the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds in Arizona. Recognized for his impressive performance as the 3A Western Slope strikeout leader, the senior pitcher was surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and teammates during his signing ceremony held at Roaring Fork High School.
Fenton, who has been dedicated to his training since kindergarten, expressed enthusiasm about continuing to develop his skills at Mesa, a Division II junior college renowned for nurturing talent. "I wanted a warm place where I could develop year-round, and Mesa was the perfect fit," he stated.
Under the mentorship of experienced head coach Tony Cirelli, Fenton now aims for success at the college level. His accolades include leading the state in strikeouts as a junior and earning the Trent Goscha Scholarship, which honors the legacy of a former player known for his love of the sport. "The scholarship means so much to me… it’s a reminder to honor Trent every step of the way," Fenton shared, highlighting his commitment to both baseball and character development as he embarks on this new journey.
