Running Flan Club Takes Paris by Storm
Paris, France — What started as an engineering student’s inventive way to enjoy running has blossomed into the vibrant Running Flan Club, now a cult favorite among fitness and dessert lovers alike. Aurélien Bernhard, a Paris-based student, initially sought motivation to run by treating himself to flan at various bakeries after his workouts. What began as a personal challenge quickly morphed into a communal event in September 2024 when Bernhard invited colleagues, leading to a viral sensation.
Each week, the club attracts around 150 participants, drawing attention from bakeries eager to showcase their flan creations. Participants sample unique varieties, such as the hazelnut praline flan recently featured at the Vincent Salur bakery near the Eiffel Tower. Bernhard, passionate about flan, has even crafted his own tiered list of Paris’ best flans, celebrating local culinary artistry.
The club has emerged as a social hub where individuals share not only running and flan but also friendship. "Running is a social activity, and so is gastronomy," remarked a co-founder of the similar Food Runners Club, which involves running to different eateries for tastings. With over 27,000 social media followers, these running communities have partnered with restaurants who offer incentives for participants.
The popularity of these clubs is spreading, inspiring similar initiatives in cities like New York and London, where food-themed running clubs have taken shape. With a blend of fitness, socializing, and culinary delight, the Running Flan Club has redefined both running and dessert enjoyment, proving that sometimes, the best motivation comes in the form of a delicious treat.
