Western School of Science and Technology Celebrates New Football Field Installation
Phoenix, AZ – In a significant enhancement for local youth sports, the Western School of Science and Technology has officially unveiled its new football field, recently relocated from the 2024 Rate Bowl. This vibrant 75,000-square-foot artificial turf field previously hosted an electrifying 44-41 come-from-behind victory for Kansas State over Rutgers.
The donation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Fiesta Sports Foundation, BHHS Legacy Foundation, and the Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority (AZSTA). This marks the 10th field donated by the Fiesta Sports Foundation, which has previously installed natural grass surfaces at various locations across Arizona, including elementary schools and city parks. Notably, this is the first donation aimed specifically at an Arizona high school.
The field arrived at the school on December 27, just a day after the Rate Bowl, and was officially installed on January 3. Alongside the new football field, the Fiesta Sports Foundation also contributed a multi-sport court and modern amenities, including a solar-powered scoreboard and bleachers—additions that greatly enhance the facility’s usability and attractiveness.
Previously lacking these essential features, the school now boasts a cutting-edge sports complex that serves not only its students but the broader Maryvale community.
To celebrate, the Fiesta Sports Foundation hosted a memorable ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a football clinic, engaging over 75 children from Pioneer Preparatory School and middle school students from the Western School of Science and Technology. Members of the school’s high school boys football and girls flag football teams provided coaching, fostering community spirit and encouraging young athletes to pursue their passion for sports.
This initiative underscores the commitment to improving youth sports facilities in Arizona, creating opportunities for engagement and athletic development.
