In a thrilling showdown on Tuesday, Grand Canyon University (GCU) baseball defeated the 22nd-ranked University of Arizona 5-2, showcasing their impressive form against top-tier opponents. The Lopes notched their fifth victory over Arizona in the last two seasons, solidifying their position with a 28-20 record.
Junior first baseman Zach Yorke stole the spotlight, smashing two home runs—including his 30th and 31st of his career—tying Jacob Wilson’s school record for RBIs at 155. His first homer, a powerful shot over the right-center field wall, set the tone for the game, demonstrating Yorke’s keen anticipation of pitches.
GCU’s pitching ace, Chance Key, delivered a stellar six-inning performance, allowing only two runs while retiring nine consecutive batters in a critical stretch.
