Arizona Wildcats Fall to Grand Canyon Antelopes
In a midweek matchup, the Arizona Wildcats (33-15) suffered a 5-2 defeat against the Grand Canyon Antelopes (28-20) at GCU Ballpark on Tuesday evening. Despite catching a strong game from Adonys Guzman, who went 2-for-3 and hit his sixth home run of the season, the Wildcats’ offense struggled, managing eight walks but only converting them into two runs.
Arizona’s pitching was a combined effort, featuring seven pitchers throughout the contest. Notable performances included left-hander Eric Orloff, who recorded 1.1 innings with a strikeout, and fellow right-handers Carson Johnson, Raul Garayzar, and Matthew Martinez, all delivering scoreless innings. However, Julian Tonghini (4-2) took the loss after allowing two unearned runs.
Orloff’s appearance added to his career total, marking 84, the sixth most in program history. Looking ahead, Arizona will conclude its 2025 regular season home schedule with a three-game series against the Utah Utes starting Friday, May 9, at 6:00 PM MST, broadcast on ESPN+. The Wildcats will seek to bounce back and finish the season strong.
