Lori Vallow Daybell Seeks New Trial After Murder Conspiracy Conviction
PHOENIX — Lori Vallow Daybell, recently convicted of conspiring to kill her former husband Charles Vallow, has filed a motion for a new trial less than two weeks post-verdict. The motion, submitted to Maricopa County Superior Court on May 1, cites several grounds including alleged juror misconduct involving Juror 15, who expressed knowledge of Vallow Daybell’s prior convictions in Idaho.
Her defense claims this constituted extraneous information that may have tainted the jury’s verdict. Notably, the jury had not heard about these prior convictions during the trial. Vallow Daybell’s motion also argues that she was denied the opportunity to present testimony from key witnesses, including her deceased brother, Alex Cox, who fatally shot Charles Vallow in 2019.
Additionally, she challenges parts of the evidence presented, asserting that the introduction of Charles Vallow’s cell phone data was improper and that she faced prosecutorial misconduct during the trial. Formally representing herself, Vallow Daybell contends the court’s restrictions on her witnesses hindered her defense.
Vallow Daybell, who faces further charges related to her niece’s ex-husband, awaits a decision on the motion amid continued legal proceedings.
