Tucson Hosts Cinco de Mayo Golf Fundraiser for Adaptive Sports Programs
Tucson, Ariz. – The vibrant spirit of Tucson is set to shine brighter as the U of A Adaptive Athletics Program and Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports (SAAS) continue to expand their initiatives for athletes with disabilities. This growth will be celebrated at the upcoming Cinco de Mayo Golf Fundraiser, scheduled for May 5 at Tucson Country Club, thanks to a partnership led by local philanthropist Jim Click and other area sponsors.
The fundraiser aims to support these indispensable adaptive sports programs, which provide opportunities for athletes to engage in a variety of activities, including wheelchair basketball, tennis, and golf. For participants like U of A golfers Anthony Maldonado and Amanda Cunha, the program has been life-changing. Maldonado, who lost his leg in a car accident in 2020, and Cunha, who is legally blind, both emphasize how such fundraisers enable them to pursue their athletic dreams.
Registration for the event will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the first tee time scheduled for 9 a.m. As the event draws near, anticipation grows for what promises to be a day filled with camaraderie, competition, and support for adaptive athletes across the region.
This Cinco de Mayo celebration not only highlights the commitment to inclusivity in sports but also showcases the power of community support. By participating in events like this, attendees contribute directly to the lives of athletes who demonstrate remarkable resilience and determination in the face of challenges.
With Tucson’s adaptive sports programs flourishing, events like the golf fundraiser play a crucial role in ensuring that all athletes have the chance to engage, compete, and shine.
