Terry Adirim, the CIA’s former top doctor, is suing the agency after her abrupt firing, claiming a violation of due process and suggesting that the decision was influenced by far-right activists. Adirim had recently been appointed as the director of the CIA’s Center for Global Health Services, following her role at the Pentagon during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Shortly after her hiring, far-right commentator Ivan Raiklin accused her of spearheading the Defense Department’s vaccine mandate, which required military personnel to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. According to the lawsuit, the CIA’s announcement of her hiring was leaked to Raiklin before it was made public. Raiklin, known for his strong anti-vaccine stance and connections to figures like Michael Flynn, demanded retaliation against officials involved in enforcing the vaccine mandate.
Adirim’s dismissal came just weeks after she received a positive email from the CIA’s chief operating officer expressing enthusiasm for her career development. The lawsuit highlights that her firing occurred just two days after Lara Loomer, another far-right figure, visited the White House and called for the removal of national security officials over supposed disloyalty. Loomer later claimed responsibility for the firing of high-ranking officials, including the director of the NSA.
Adirim’s attorney, Kevin Carroll, stated the lawsuit aims to stop the CIA from enforcing her firing and to seek damages for privacy violations and breach of contract. He also plans to demonstrate that Raiklin collaborated with Loomer in orchestrating Adirim’s dismissal. The CIA has yet to respond to the allegations.
