In Camden County, New Jersey, three good Samaritans, including two Army reservists, intervened during an attempted carjacking, saving a woman from a dangerous assault. The incident occurred on Thursday morning around 8:30 a.m. on Jackson Road in Waterford Township. A 45-year-old man, Rondean McDonald, crashed his vehicle into a wooded area. A 59-year-old woman stopped to assist, but McDonald forced his way into her car and demanded she drive him. When she refused and attempted to call 911, he snatched her phone, attacked her, and began strangling her.
Witness Joseph Knazek observed the struggle and rushed to help the victim, trying to restrain McDonald and free her from her seatbelt. Simultaneously, two military reservists, one a Philadelphia police officer, noticed the chaos and joined the rescue. One of the reservists used a fire extinguisher to break the driver’s side window and pull McDonald out of the car, while they worked to restrain him until police arrived.
Following the intervention, the victim was hospitalized but reported in stable condition. McDonald was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges, including carjacking and driving while intoxicated. The quick actions of the bystanders likely saved the woman’s life, highlighting the importance of courage and community in crisis situations.
