University of Arizona Announces Leadership Restructuring in Health Sciences Colleges
In a significant restructuring move, President Suresh Garimella announced that five health sciences colleges at the University of Arizona will now report directly to the Office of the Provost. This change affects the Tucson and Phoenix locations of the College of Medicine, as well as the Colleges of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Public Health. Previously, these colleges were led by Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, Dr. Michael Dake, who stepped down from his position on April 30.
Moving forward, the deans of the colleges will report to Dr. Patricia Prelock, the newly appointed provost who begins her tenure on May 19. This leadership realignment aims to promote consistent academic standards, enhance cross-college collaboration, and facilitate a more integrated experience for students, faculty, and staff.
University officials assured stakeholders that there will be no layoffs and that academic programs and course offerings will remain unchanged as a result of this consolidation. Garimella emphasized the potential benefits of the new structure, aimed at strengthening the university’s health sciences education and services.
