Diamondbacks Welcome Back Star Second Baseman Ketel Marte
PHILADELPHIA – The Arizona Diamondbacks have reinstated Ketel Marte from the 10-day injured list, marking a significant boost for the team ahead of their series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies. Marte had been sidelined for four weeks due to a strained left hamstring sustained early in the season.
To accommodate Marte’s return, the D-backs optioned outfielder Jorge Barrosa to Triple-A Reno. Previously, Marte made an unofficial announcement of his comeback via social media while in Philadelphia, hinting at his imminent return to play.
Manager Torey Lovullo expressed his excitement about Marte’s return, stating, "It’s not very vague… He’s coming here to play some baseball." Lovullo confirmed that there’s a strong likelihood Marte will be in the lineup on Friday, particularly at second base.
Before his injury, Marte showcased impressive performance in the limited time he played, slashing .346/.469/.462 with three doubles in just eight games. His absence was felt in the lineup, though players like Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo stepped up, achieving OPS figures of .958 and .846 respectively.
Marte finished the previous season with notable statistics, hitting 36 home runs and driving in 95 RBIs. His ability to perform against both right-handed and left-handed pitchers will enhance the Diamondbacks’ offensive capabilities, particularly against southpaws, an area of struggle for the team this season.
As the Diamondbacks gear up for a challenging stretch against NL contenders, they hope Marte’s return will help maintain momentum following recent victories against the New York Mets. Meanwhile, Barrosa heads back to the minors after a brief showing, allowing rookie Tim Tawa to remain on the roster as he has shown promising potential despite low batting averages.
The Diamondbacks are eager to see how Marte’s presence will impact their upcoming games.
