[Dutch Firm ASM International Launches U.S. Production in Arizona to Avoid Tariffs]

Press Release: ASM International Advances U.S. Manufacturing Amid Market Growth

ASM International (ASMI), a leading Dutch chip toolmaker, is strategically ramping up production in the United States to counteract rising tariffs and maintain its competitive edge against domestic giants like Applied Materials and LAM Research. The company’s commitment to U.S. manufacturing includes a new base in Arizona, where it can better serve major clients such as Intel and TSMC.

With 21% of its projected 2024 revenue sourced from the U.S. market, ASMI is poised to leverage its proximity to top chip manufacturers. CEO Hichem M’Saad emphasized that the location enhances the rollout of innovative technologies, particularly Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD). This cutting-edge technique allows the creation of ultra-small chip circuits by layering materials just atoms thick.

In a robust start to 2024, ASMI reported nearly 20% growth in first-quarter orders, totaling €834.2 million ($951 million), driven largely by strong demand from China. This growth is significant, especially as the company prepares for a major breakthrough in gate-all-around (GAA) transistor architecture expected by 2025. Despite challenges faced by competitors like ASML, ASMI’s strategic initiatives position it for sustained growth in the evolving semiconductor landscape.
