Border Agents Discover Methamphetamine in Mercedes Vehicle in Arizona

Arizona Couple Arrested in Major Methamphetamine Bust

PHOENIX — Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents arrested an Arizona couple last week after discovering over 60 bundles of methamphetamine concealed within their Mercedes-Benz SUV. The seizure occurred at an Interstate 19 checkpoint near Amado in Nogales around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A canine team alerted agents to the vehicle, prompting a secondary inspection that revealed the hidden drug stash wrapped in cellophane. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) took custody of the drugs and the vehicle, while the case was subsequently handed over to federal authorities.

Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean L. McGoffin emphasized the consequences of drug smuggling, stating, “Smugglers should take note: If you try to smuggle drugs through our checkpoints, you will be caught, and you will face federal prosecution.”

The incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking along the U.S.-Mexico border. Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity, contributing to the fight against drug smuggling.
