Falcons Blame DC’s Son for Shedeur Sanders Prank

Atlanta Falcons Address Prank Call Incident Involving Draft Pick Shedeur Sanders

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons have clarified that a prank call made to Cleveland Browns draft pick Shedeur Sanders was the doing of defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son, Jax Ulbrich. In a statement released Sunday, the team explained that the 21-year-old stumbled upon Sanders’ contact number while visiting his parents. Unaware of the potential consequences, he noted it down to later conduct a prank call.

The incident occurred as Sanders, the standout quarterback from Colorado and son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, was waiting to be drafted. He received the prank call on the second day of the draft. Jax impersonated New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, misleading Sanders into thinking he had been drafted by the Saints.

In response to the incident, Sanders stated, “It didn’t really have no impact on me… it’s childish, but everybody does childish things here and there.”

The Falcons have since issued apologies to Sanders and his family, emphasizing that such behavior is not condoned. The organization is facilitating a direct apology from Jax to Sanders’ family and is reviewing its protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“We are thoroughly reviewing all protocols and updating if necessary, to help prevent an incident like this from happening again,” the Falcons noted. They also expressed cooperation with the NFL regarding any inquiries related to the incident.

Meanwhile, as Ulbrich celebrated the Falcons’ focus on defense during the draft, the team selected two edge rushers, marking a strategic commitment to strengthening their defensive lineup. Ulbrich previously served as interim coach of the New York Jets before returning to Atlanta.
