Eugenio Suarez Shines with Four Home Runs, Diamondbacks Fall to Braves in Extras
Chase Field, Phoenix – In a standout performance, Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez hit four home runs in a single game against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, marking a personal milestone. Despite his heroics, the Diamondbacks faced an 8-7 extra-inning loss, extending their streak to four consecutive defeats.
Suarez, who had previously struggled with only two home runs in the last 23 games, reached ten homers for the season with his fourth blast—a 383-foot shot to left field that tied the game at 7-7. He became just the 19th player in MLB history to achieve this feat and noted, “I just want to glorify God with this game he gave me today. I never thought it would happen. Today was a perfect day.”
Suarez led an Arizona offense that had been averaging just 3.67 runs per game, though support was limited, with catcher Gabriel Moreno and center fielder Alek Thomas contributing the only other hits. Starting pitcher Merrill Kelly delivered a solid performance, going six innings and allowing two earned runs, but the bullpen faltered, yielding six runs (five earned) after his exit, marking the Diamondbacks’ fifth blown save in their last eight attempts.
Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks (14-13) will aim to snap their losing streak in the series finale against the Braves (12-14) on Sunday. Brandon Pfaadt (4-1, 2.73 ERA) is set to take the mound for Arizona, facing Braves righty Spencer Schwellenbach (1-1, 2.56 ERA).
