Diamondbacks’ Suárez Hits Four Homers in Historic Game Despite Loss
PHOENIX — In a remarkable display of power, Arizona Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suárez made history on Saturday night by becoming only the 19th player in Major League Baseball to hit four home runs in a single game. The feat came during an 8-7 loss to the Atlanta Braves in 10 innings, marking the first time it has been accomplished since J.D. Martinez did so for the D-backs in 2017.
From the outset, Suárez showcased his prowess, hitting a solo homer in the second inning, followed by a two-run shot in the fourth, and capping his performance with two more solo homers in the sixth and ninth, driving in five runs total. Despite his remarkable achievement, Suárez reflected on the mixed emotions of not securing a victory, saying, “Mixed feelings right now because we didn’t win the game. But this is baseball… it’s a gift and I don’t take it for granted.”
D-backs manager Torey Lovullo expressed disbelief at Suárez’s performance, calling it "one of those magical nights." Over his 12-year career, Suárez has hit 286 home runs, but none will be as memorable as this night at Chase Field.
