Solo Homer Leads to Aztecs’ Victory over No. 12/13 Arizona

SDSU Softball Falls in Narrow 1-0 Loss to Arizona

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State Aztecs were edged out by the No. 12/13 Arizona Wildcats on Friday night at SDSU Softball Stadium, suffering a tight 1-0 defeat. The game remained scoreless through six innings, highlighting incredible performances from starting pitchers Cece Cellura for SDSU and Devyn Netz for Arizona.

Cellura opened with a strong first inning, striking out Dakota Kennedy and Kaiah Altmeyer while maintaining a shutout through much of the game, not allowing a baserunner until the sixth inning. Despite solid efforts, including a hit from Angie Yellen and an infield single by Julie Holcomb, the Aztecs failed to capitalize, leaving them stranded.

In a key moment in the seventh, Netz hit a solo home run to clinch the win for Arizona. Although SDSU’s Jade Ignacio reached on an error to bring power hitters Shannon Cunningham and Grace Uribe to the plate, Netz held firm to secure the victory.

Cellura completed her third game of the season in which she pitched a complete game with a 1-0 result, mirroring previous losses this season against Utah and Nevada. The two teams will conclude the series Saturday at noon in what’s billed as Pride Day, with fans receiving complimentary pride t-shirts.
