My Mother’s Cutlets Brings Family Recipe to Boston’s North End
BOSTON, MA – A new sandwich shop has opened its doors in Boston’s North End, celebrating a cherished family recipe. "My Mother’s Cutlets," launched on April 25, showcases the culinary skills of Michelle Varano, the matriarch behind the famous chicken cutlets that have enchanted the Varano family for decades. Marina Varano, Michelle’s daughter, recalls how these crispy cutlets became a staple in their home, drawing in friends from school and college alike.
"My mom made these cutlets almost five times a week; they were the only dish my brother and I ever requested," Marina shared. Determined to share their beloved family recipe with the community, the family decided to brand their eatery after her mother’s cutlets, claiming they are simply the best in Boston.
At My Mother’s Cutlets, customers can construct their own chicken cutlet sandwiches, choosing from a variety of bread, cutlets, sauces, and add-ons, including eggplant, veal, and meatballs. For those seeking a lighter option, the menu features a "famous" tomato salad as a base. Prices start at $15, with customizable creations reflecting the shop’s aim to bring a fast-casual experience akin to "the Chipotle for Italians."
Of note are the restaurant’s ready-made sandwiches, with highlights including "My Mother’s Special," featuring vodka sauce and burrata, and "The Hot Paisan," topped with prosciutto and hot honey.
Located at 371 Hanover St., My Mother’s Cutlets is a family affair, featuring contributions from Marina’s mother, aunt, and other relatives. With its opening on a meaningful corner where Nick Varano, Marina’s father, once thrived with his first restaurant, the establishment embodies a strong sense of family legacy. Open daily, My Mother’s Cutlets invites all to partake in the Varano family tradition.
