Cardinals Continue Ohio State Tradition with Cody Simon Draft Pick
The Arizona Cardinals have continued their trend of selecting Ohio State players, drafting inside linebacker Cody Simon with the 115th pick in the fourth round. This marks the third consecutive draft where the Cardinals have chosen a Buckeye, following the selection of left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in 2023.
Simon, who was a pivotal player on Ohio State’s defense, was the starting Mike linebacker during their run to the National Championship and was named defensive MVP in the title game against Notre Dame. He recorded impressive stats in his final season, leading the team with 112 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and seven sacks.
Expressing enthusiasm about joining familiar faces in Johnson and Harrison, Simon emphasized the importance of instincts, leadership, and communication for a successful defensive unit. The Cardinals, looking to bolster their linebacker roster after the departure of Kyzir White, see Simon as a key candidate for the Mike position.
Kicking off his NFL journey, Simon forged connections with the Cardinals’ coaching staff during the combine and throughout the draft process. His selection was announced by fellow linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. from Sonora, Mexico, underscoring the exciting start to Simon’s professional career.
