Jake McCarthy optioned to Triple-A Reno by Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned struggling outfielder Jake McCarthy to Triple-A Reno, according to the team’s transactions list. McCarthy, who had a career-high season in 2024, started the 2025 season in a hitting slump, going 0-for-24 and struggling at the plate. Despite a brief improvement, McCarthy continued to struggle, going 0-for-10 at the plate since his breakthrough moment.

This is not the first time McCarthy has been optioned to Triple-A, as he faced a similar situation in 2023 before returning to the Diamondbacks and providing value as a fourth outfielder. With McCarthy’s struggles, the Diamondbacks are looking to make changes to their outfield depth, with outfielder Jorge Barrosa expected to be recalled to the major league club. Barrosa, a switch-hitter and strong defender, has been performing well in Triple-A and made his MLB debut last year.

The Diamondbacks, currently ranked 28th in batting average for hitters 5-9 in the order, are seeking to shake things up and improve their offensive production. With the return of Barrosa and the solid performance of outfielder Alek Thomas, the team is looking to boost its outfield options and generate more offensive output.

The Diamondbacks had a day off on Monday and will return to action on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Chase Field. Fans can expect to see changes in the outfield lineup as the team aims to address its hitting struggles and improve overall performance.
