K9 Sem, a Belgian Malinois police dog from Tolleson, is retiring after five years of service with the Tolleson Police Department. The loyal partner of Officer Jack Brand, Sem specialized in narcotics detection and patrol duties. During his time with the department, Sem assisted in 141 calls, including cases involving homicide, armed robbery, and kidnapping suspects, as well as aiding in the seizure of fentanyl and other narcotics.
Sem will retire on April 30 and will spend his retirement with Officer Brand and his family. City officials expressed their gratitude for Sem’s service, calling him a community hero. The Dutch-born K9 has made a significant impact in the West Valley area and the Tolleson community.
