UVM Interim President Patricia Prelock has been selected as the next provost and senior vice president of academic affairs at the University of Arizona in Tucson. This marks the third time in the last year that a UVM administrator has left for Arizona, following former UVM President Suresh Garimella and Richard Cate, vice president of finance and administration.
Prelock, who has been with UVM for 30 years, was chosen from a pool of four finalists after a monthslong candidate search. University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella expressed excitement over Prelock’s appointment, stating she is a world-class academic leader.
Prelock will begin her new role on May 19, while Acting Provost Linda Schadler will temporarily take over. Marlene Tromp, who was recently hired as Garimella’s replacement, will officially assume the role of provost in August.
In an email to the UVM community, Prelock expressed gratitude for her time at the university and excitement for the new opportunity, especially the chance to spend more time with her family in Arizona.
