Baltimore engineering students prepare for global competition in Arizona


A group of talented engineering students from Merganthaler Vocational Technical High School in Baltimore is making waves in the world of wind energy. After dominating the podium at the Maryland KidWind regional competition, the team is now gearing up to compete in the World KidWind Challenge in Arizona.

The students showcased their skills in building wind turbines and impressed judges with their designs, presentations, and engineering capabilities. This will be the third year in a row that Mervo students have swept the podium at a regional KidWind competition. This year, they also achieved a new milestone by winning the instant challenge and receiving a perfect score in their division.

The diverse group of students, ranging from sophomores to seniors, emphasize the importance of collaboration in their success. They credit their interest in engineering to early experiences with tinkering and inventing, as well as inspiration from movies like “Chappie” and “I, Robot.”

The World KidWind Competition in Phoenix promises to be an exciting opportunity for these talented students to showcase their skills on a global stage. Their dedication and innovative thinking are sure to make them strong contenders in the competition.
