Vincent Lemark Burrell, a Georgia man, was sentenced to 475 years in prison for facilitating dog fights and abusing animals. The case began when an Amazon delivery worker reported seeing dogs tied up with heavy chains on Burrell’s property in Dallas, Georgia. Upon investigation, authorities found 107 dogs, some underweight and lacking food, water, and shelter, with many restrained with logging chains. Burrell was arrested on allegations of facilitating dog fights and animal cruelty. Evidence found on the property linked Burrell to dog fighting, including equipment such as a treadmill, breeding stand, and documents related to known dog fighters. A veterinarian confirmed signs of abuse on the seized dogs, including removed teeth and scars from fighting. The dogs were taken in by a nonprofit rescue organization. One of the rescued dogs, Baby Shark, was intended for illegal fighting according to prosecutors. Burrell was convicted by a jury on 93 counts of dog fighting and 10 counts of cruelty to animals. Superior Court Judge Dean C. Bucci sentenced him to the maximum allowed by law. The case is considered the longest-known sentence for dog fighting. Burrell denied involvement in dog fighting but did not indicate whether he would appeal the sentence.
