The Master’s University women’s basketball team secured a 75-70 victory over the OUAZ Spirit in a road game on January 30. With a strong defensive performance, the Lady Mustangs held the Spirit to 34 percent shooting. Despite OUAZ’s defensive pressure, TMU responded well and ended the game shooting 44 percent from the field. Head Coach Fonda Wilson praised the team’s toughness and unity throughout the game.
The Lady Mustangs maintained a lead throughout the game, finishing the first quarter with a 27-22 advantage and extending it to 43-33 by halftime. They started the third quarter with a 10-2 run, building an 18-point lead. Although OUAZ fought back and narrowed the gap, The Master’s sealed the win as time ran out.
Top scorers for TMU were Lexi Hernandez with 14 points and eight rebounds, Alli VanKooten with 12 points and five blocks, and Laney Grider with 12 points. The team will face No. 19 Arizona Christian next on February 1. More information can be found on GoMustangs.com.
